PLAN releases plan

The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada last week released a white paper on taxation in Nevada and called for expanding the sales tax to cover services as well as durable goods and replacing the modified business tax with a corporate income tax.

PLAN argues for exempting legal services, banking and insurance from the sales tax on services on grounds that those services “cannot feasibly be taxed.”

The plan also calls for changes in state mining taxes, including curbing the deductions allowed to mining companies.

All of this, however, is described as an interim plan to get the state through the current tight times. Ultimately, PLAN argued that Nevada should move to an income tax to replace “most other taxes currently imposed” in the state. That would require amending the Nevada Constitution.
