Dr. Trudy Larson will become director of the University of Nevada School of Community Health Sciences in Reno.

A pediatric infectious disease specialist, Larson has been a professor, pediatrics chair and associate dean during her 27 years at the campus. She has filled in as Community Health Sciences director for nearly a year before being given the permanent position.

Larson is noted for her efforts to get reliable information to the Nevada public during the AIDS hysteria of the 1980s (“AIDS at 25,” RN&R, June 6, 2006). In 1990, she co-founded Northern Nevada HOPES, the first Truckee Meadows clinic for those with HIV/AIDS.
