Around the sundial in downtown Sparks last weekend, hundreds of people gathered for a two-day Peruvian festival that featured live music, Peruvian food, displays and booths. There are plans to make the event an annual observance. Peru declared its independence from Spanish rule and other foreign dominance on July 28, 1821.
