Spider-Man 3

Rated 2.0

Director Sam Raimi goes nuts for Spidey’s third film foray and delivers the least satisfying film of the franchise. Three villains battle for screen time as Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) battles the dark side of his personality after some black goo from outer space takes over his Spider-Man costume and turns him bad. Things run afoul in his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), who is just one hell of a drag this time out. The webbed one faces off against The Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), a shape-shifting bad guy with a conflicted soul; Venom (Topher Grace), a totally interesting character who gets about five minutes in the movie; and Harry the New Goblin (James Franco), who actually gets amnesia after being bonked on the head. It’s all too much for one, maybe even two, movies, and Raimi really needed to streamline his plot. There will probably be more Spidey flicks, but it’s time for Raimi to move on.
