Results of area phone book recycling

The Truckee Meadows recycled about 100 tons of old phone books through the recently ended 2008 AT&T Real Yellow Pages Project ReDirectory recycling campaign. According to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, a campaign partner, “for every ton of phone books recycled, 6,953 gallons of water, 463 gallons of oil and enough landfill space to occupy a Volkswagen Beetle are saved.”

(Think what they’d save if they gave them only to willing customers.)

The recycling campaign period is not the only time you can recycle phone books in the area. You can do it year-round by placing them with your curbside recycling, or by taking them to the Recycle America recycling center at 1100 E. Commercial Row.
