Resort train plan floated

Squaw Valley USA corporate CEO Andy Wirth wants to establish rail mass transit from Sacramento and the Bay Area to North Lake Tahoe resorts. The idea is drawn in part from the Ski Train in Colorado, which has ferried skiers from Denver to the ski resort town of Winter Park since 1940.

But Union Pacific Railroad, which owns the tracks from California across the Sierra, is not a party to any discussions on the notion.

Denver private equity fund KSL Capital Partners bought Squaw Valley USA from the Squaw Valley Ski Corp. in November. KSL also owns hotels, a cruise ship line and golf courses.
