Pineapple Express

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle has officially been dethroned as the best weed movie of the last 10 years. This action thriller, featuring heroes seriously impaired by their pot consumption, is just another reason to call Seth Rogen one of the best comic actors working today. It also gives us reason to take note of the comic talents of James Franco, who absolutely kills as a stoner-dealer whose exclusive line of marijuana gets him into a world of trouble. Rogen plays a process server who witnesses a drug lord (Gary Cole) killing a rival. He goes on the run with his dealer (Franco), and the result is a very buzzed action thriller that is a throwback to the action-buddy films of the 1970s and ’80s. It’s directed by indie auteur David Gordon Green, who shows he knows how to get big laughs while making a good-looking movie. This is one of the year’s funnier films, and a triumph for Rogen and Franco.
