Orchestral maneuvers

It’s hard to believe the calendar, but July is almost over. That also means there are less than two weeks left to take advantage of all the free events offered during Artown. If you love classical music, then you’ll be happy to know you can listen to Reno Chamber Orchestra perform two free concerts this week. The RCO will perform Mozart’s Symphony No. 34 and Dvorak’s Czech Suite No. 3 at the Meadowood Mall Grand Court, 5000 Meadowood Mall Circle. The music begins 2 p.m. July 24. The orchestra will close the Beethoven at Bartley music series with a performance of Beethoven’s “Triple” Concerto as well as the previously mentioned works by Mozart and Dvorak. The concert begins 7:30 p.m. July 26 at the Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road. RCO Music Director Theodore Kuchar will conduct both shows. In addition to his duties at the RCO, Kuchar is also the conductor laureate of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the artistic director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the music director of the Boulder Philharmonic and Fresco Philharmonic orchestras. The RCO’s 2004-2005 season kicks off Sept. 25. Season tickets are available ranging from $75 to $190. Call 348-9413 or visit www.renochamberorchestra.org.—Kelley Lang
