Masked and Anonymous

Rated 2.0 One of the more confoundingly strange films ever produced for the big screen, this stars Bob Dylan as Jack Fate, sprung from jail by a shifty concert promoter (John Goodman) to perform a benefit concert for a nation riddled with civil unrest (perhaps the United States, but not quite sure). A slew of stars show up to ramble strange, improvised dialogue, while Dylan stares at them with an expression that screams, “I’d rather be smoking pot right now.” Actually, his expression says something along the lines of “I’ve already smoked a bowl, and I wish I was smoking a few more right now.” The musical numbers are very good, and that will be worth the price of admission for some. For others, seeing Goodman, Jeff Bridges, Ed Harris and Jessica Lange embarrass themselves will amount to fun, in a very bad cinema sort of way.
