Heading north on Keystone Avenue, just past the railroad tracks, there’s this billboard that counts as the hippest, least offensive attempt at proselytizing the averaged unchurched driver that I’ve seen for some time. There’s a giant metal spigot from which pours water that, as it falls, turns into wine. The scriptural reference is unmistakable, but the billboard also holds more general connotations of spiritual cleansing and transformation. Furthermore, especially given its proximity to Ben’s Fine Wine and Spirits, the billboard reminds you that a nice bottle of wine might enhance a night of religious contemplation. Better yet, wine lovers seeking spiritual enlightenment can attend the Wines of the Bible event, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 2 at Station Grill and Rotisserie, 1105 S. Carson St. in Carson City. Sample and hear about the religious history of wines from Greece, Italy, Israel, Germany, France and California. (California?) The event is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada and will raise funds for the Galilee Camp and Conference Center at Lake Tahoe. Call 888-9669.
