Extract

Jason Bateman stars as an owner of an extract company who wants to cheat on his wife (Kristen Wiig) because she won’t sleep with him. He’s so desperate that, after taking a horse tranquilizer, he hires a gigolo to seduce his wife so he can feel less guilty when he cheats on her with a new employee (Mila Kunis). That’s basically the plot for this uninspired comedy from the usually reliable Mike Judge. Bateman, Kunis, and Wiig flail away in this unfunny world, along with Ben Affleck as a stoner. All of the performers have their moments, but the film is surprisingly bland and never hits its stride. There are some sporadic laughs, but whatever Judge is trying to say about relationships and the world of business is woefully unclear. This is a big letdown.
