Bridge over clean water
As scholars and researchers prepared to discuss the future of the Truckee River (see Green, facing page), locals were busy maintaining it. Nearly 700 residents volunteered at the Truckee River Cleanup day on Sept. 24. Hosted by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, more than 12 tons of trash and debris were collected from the river and its banks. Volunteers also assisted with storm drain stenciling and tree wrapping. The cleanup took place along 20 miles of the river.
