In a week when President Obama is under criticism for promising to veto a bill that allows indefinite detentions in the United States and then changing his mind, Nevadans should know that such features of “homeland security” are worming their way into many parts of our lives.

Staffers of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles no longer photograph drivers with their glasses on, even if they wear glasses while driving.

The purpose is to accommodate facial recognition technology, one of many features of modern law enforcement being put into use before their full implication is known.

“The glasses obscure some features,” according to a DMV spokesperson.
