You Don’t Mess With the Zohan

While director Dennis Dugan is responsible for one of the better Adam Sandler films (Happy Gilmore) he’s also responsible for some of his very worst (I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Big Daddy). It’s kind of surprising that Sandler would do two films in a row with Dugan, and while this one isn’t as bad as Chuck and Larry, it’s not all that good, either. Sandler plays Zohan, an Israeli counter-terrorist who wants to become a hairdresser. After a promising start where Zohan battles his enemy, The Phantom (John Turturro), in his native land, Zohan goes to America, and the pic fizzles for the most part. There are a few big laughs (I loved when Turturro crawled around on a ceiling like Spider-Man), but too many of the jokes are lame, crass and done to death. How many times do you need to hear Sandler having sex with old ladies?
