Shutdown prompts record-high approval of starting third party

While the rift between Republican and Democratic lawmakers has grown so wide as to force a government shutdown, their constituents seem to agree on one thing—it’s time for a new party. According to the results of a Gallup poll published Oct. 11, 52 percent of Republicans and 49 percent of Democrats support the idea of a third major political party. A total of 60 percent of people polled said both major parties are doing a poor job—the highest rate in 10 years. A mere 26 percent—an all-time low—said the two-party system adequately represents America.
