When Don Simic’s walnut tree died, he cut off the foliage and used fishing line to hang shoes from it. Since Simic hung his first pair three years ago, people have left old shoes at the base of the tree for him to add. Now more than 20 pairs of shoes hang from Simic’s 30-foot-tall shoe tree located just south of town past Hegan Lane. There are simple sneakers and a few novelty shoes like roller skates, saddle shoes and leather work-boots.
