Pardon a bird

Farm Sanctuary allows Californians to pardon turkeys this Thanksgiving

All Californians have an opportunity to pardon a turkey this Thanksgiving through the national farm-animal rescue organization Farm Sanctuary.

The Adopt a Turkey Project allows anyone to sponsor a rescued bird at one of the organization’s two California shelters, one of which is located outside of Orland, according to California News Service. For a $30 donation, sponsors will receive an adoption certificate complete with a picture and fun details about the newly adopted turkey.

Bruce Friedrich, advocacy director for Farm Sanctuary, said Californians have a chance to “pardon tens of millions of turkeys by helping us make Thanksgiving a compassionate holiday, rather than one that requires turkey sacrifice.”
