On the run again

Suspect who CHP officer shot slips out of the hospital

Chico police say the man a California Highway Patrol officer shot after he rammed into a patrol car and a bystander’s vehicle is now on the lam.

According to a Chico Police Department press release, Jeffrey Daniel Crone, who was being treated for gunshot wounds, left Enloe Medical Center at about 3 p.m. Monday (March 14). He reportedly walked out of the hospital with a white woman with blond hair.

Crone (pictured) is wanted on felony warrants related to an incident 10 days earlier. That’s when he led Chico and Oroville CHP officers on a chase and used his truck as a weapon to evade arrest.

Ironically, Crone slipped out of Enloe around the time District Attorney Mike Ramsey held a press conference to announce that the shooting was justified. The 32-year-old suspect is described as heavily tattooed. He stands 5-foot-10, 190 pounds. Anyone with info about his whereabouts is urged to contact CPD at 897-4911.
