Police say victim was shot to death in an apartment

The Chico Police Department has released additional details about the gang-related murder of a Chico man, whose burned body was found earlier this month near River Road.

According to a CPD press release, José Barajas Sánchez, 21, was shot to death on Jan. 27 in an apartment in west Chico. On Feb. 3, workers inspecting some infrastructure along Crouch Avenue found his body under a bridge.

Murder suspects Antonio Montes Linares, 19, and Timothy Miles Nuñez, 18, of Chico, are in custody at the Butte County Jail, facing murder charges. The murder is thought to be gang-related, though a motive is unclear at this time.
