More honors for The Orion

Student paper wins national and state firsts in general excellence

Chalk up more honors for The Orion, the student newspaper at Chico State University. They must be running out of wall space for all those plaques by now.

On Sunday (March 1), at the National College Journalism Convention in San Diego, the paper took first place for general excellence in the Best of Show competition for broadsheet newspapers at four-year universities. The day before, during the California College Media Association Awards presentation at the same Marriott hotel, The Orion also took first place for best overall design and for general excellence among four-year weeklies in the state.

In addition, the paper took a national first-place honor for interactive multimedia content for a November 2008 video report on the band Ozomatli. It was produced by Orion video editor Rodolfo Vasquez, of Woodland.
