Environmentalist, activist and author Van Jones recently made the move from the East Bay to Washington, D.C.

Jones (pictured) is founder of Oakland-based Green For All, a national organization promoting a culturally and economically diverse green economy. He was selected to serve as special adviser for green jobs, enterprise and education under President Obama’s Council on Environmental Quality.

Jones, a Yale Law School graduate and author of The Green Collar Economy, started his post with CEQ on Monday, less than a week after Chairwoman Nancy Sutley announced the selection.

“We look forward to having him work with departments and agencies to advance the president’s agenda of creating 21st-century jobs that improve energy efficiency and utilize renewable resources,” Sutley said.
