Local doctors donate to Enloe expansion project

Local physicians group North State Radiology has given a boost to Enloe Medical Center’s mega-expansion by donating $250,000 toward the completion of the project.

In turn, the hospital is naming its new radiology center for the group. The Enloe Century Project expansion includes such amenities as a parking structure, a park and a new five-story patient tower. Completion of the entire project is slated for 2013, although many of the new facilities will be finished much sooner.

In other Enloe news, Dr. Joseph Matthews, a colorectal and general surgeon, was honored with the hospital’s Physician Legacy Award for 2009.

Matthews (pictured) has been with Enloe since 1983 and is a former chief of staff and current member of the hospital’s Planetree Leadership Team, a panel whose aim is to humanize, personalize and demystify health-care experiences. He was selected by the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee for his exceptional service, leadership and performance in the medical community.
