Two former Chico State students face criminal environmental charges related to allegedly manufacturing butane honey oil at Paradise Apartments on West Sacramento Avenue.

In April 2014, the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF) received a report of empty cans of butane in the apartment complex's dumpster, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s Office. Over the next year, BINTF collected 769 cans of butane. On May 5, a search of Gary Dufault and Rex Zimmerman's apartment turned up 2 pounds of honey oil, 9 pounds of marijuana bud, 36 pounds of marijuana shake, 12 guns and 7,300 rounds of ammunition.

Dufault and Zimmerman face more than seven years in prison for manufacturing honey oil and three years and a fine of $25,000 for dumping the cans.
