Rich Los Angelenos gift millions for green innovation

Two super-wealthy Los Angeles couples are giving back to the earth—and students—by donating millions of dollars to help establish a sustainability center at Caltech.

Stewart and Linda Resnick have donated $20 million for its creation. The focus of the center will be on “innovative science and engineering developments required for groundbreaking energy technologies,” according to Caltech.

The Resnicks, who own a company that owns Fiji Water, Teleflora and Paramount Farms, are worth an estimated at $1.5 billion, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal. The facility is to be named the Resnick Sustainability Institute.

The Resnicks’ donation is buoyed by a $10 million donation from another philanthropic couple, Gordon and Betty Moore.
