Chico State footballer goes national

Chris Wondolowski joins the U.S. All-Star team

Chico State alumnus Chris Wondolowski was recently named to the Major League Soccer All-Star First XI team. The San Jose Earthquakes forward will play alongside Galaxy midfielder David Beckham and forward Landon Donovan, and New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry in a match against English Premier League team Manchester United.

Wondolowski (pictured) was a standout player for the Chico State Wildcats from 2001-04. In 2010, Wondo, as he’s known, earned the Budweiser Golden Boot with the most goals in the MLS. His most recent accomplishment came in January, when he was selected to participate in the winter training camp for the United States men’s national team. Wondo played his first game for the red, white and blue on Jan. 22 in a friendly game against Chile. His performance earned him a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The all-star match is scheduled for July 29 and will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
