Castle breaks free

Joel Castle out of prison in guitar-for-pot case

Joel Castle, after serving several months in High Desert State Prison—and more than a year before that in Butte County Jail—is finally a free man. He served his time for trading medical marijuana for a guitar back in January 2010 and he’s back in Chico ready to wage his war on behalf of safe access to medical cannabis. And we must say he’s looking quite good for a recently incarcerated 63-year-old!

His immediate goal: To appeal his felony convictions based on improper legal representation. Castle (pictured) is set to go back to court in January. In the meantime he hopes to keep himself busy opening a bookstore on Park Avenue to raise money for his cause. He’s already amassed several donations and is looking for more.
