Butte County Library online

If you haven’t visited Butte County Library lately, you’re probably not aware of how profoundly new technologies have transformed it. It’s much more than a place to check out books or read a newspaper. Now, thanks to the power of the Internet and a newly upgraded website, you can go to the library without leaving home. Want to download an e-book to your tablet? Chances are you can find it here for free. Want to read the latest Forbes magazine on your computer? Just set up a free Zinio account at the site, and voilà! Want to see what new fiction has come into the library? And then put some books on hold? It’s a piece of cake. I recently put four on hold and by the next day three of them were on the hold shelf, waiting for me to claim them. The librarians also have connected the site to a wide array of e-resources, from databases and reference libraries to TumbleBooks, a fun reading site for kids. It’s still a pleasure to go to the library, our communal church of literacy, but with the website it’s become much larger and more useful. Check it out.
