Oroville police get grant to reduce alcohol-related crime

Efforts in Oroville to reduce alcohol-related crime recently got a boost as the Oroville Police Department was awarded a $47,660 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).

The state department’s grant assistance program has distributed more than $30 million to local law enforcement agencies since 1995, according to an Oroville PD press release. It seeks to prevent minors from obtaining alcohol and penalize “bad operators”—businesses that violate laws or contribute to an increase in crime—through fines and suspensions or revocations of alcohol licenses.

“The program improves the quality of life in neighborhoods,” said ABC Director Timothy Gorsuch. “We’ve seen a real difference in the communities where the grant program resources have been invested.
