Bloody end to May

Two Chicoans slain in a six-day span

Chico Police opened their second homicide investigation in six days after 28-year-old Ricardo Lara was shot early Sunday (May 31) outside the Delta Psi Delta fraternity house on Hazel Street. The frat is not recognized by Chico State University.

That followed the May 25 shooting death of 25-year-old David “Billy” Thuemler in a home on East 10th Street in South Chico. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey has charged two Chicoans with murder: Kenneth John LaMora, 48, and Robert Aaron Busch, 24.

Police are investigating the possibility that Lara’s slaying was gang-related, though they say he was not a documented gang member.
