Bearded, bicycle bandit

Surveillance camera captures decked-out suspect

There’s something rather odd about the man who robbed a Chico Wells Fargo Bank Tuesday morning (July 13).

As shown on the bank’s surveillance video, the man (pictured) went for broke when it came to a disguise, sporting a full beard, sunglasses, a bike helmet and gloves. The guy was even dressed in what appears to be a full jogging suit.

According to the Chico Police Department, the robbery took place at 10:18 a.m. at the bank’s East Avenue location. The man produced a note demanding money and suggesting he had a weapon, and a teller complied.

Police say he is white and tall—about 6 feet, 4 inches—and 40-49 years old. Police suspect the beard is fake. It’s anyone’s guess whether the helmet is part of his regular get-up, since the safety-conscious thief was seen riding a bicycle away from the bank. Anyone with info about the robbery is asked to contact CPD at 897-5820.
