Windows to the soul If you’re planning on hitting the trail for the final weekend of the Open Studios Art Tour [see Scene, page 27], be sure to get properly warmed up before heading out. Stretch your arts muscles by taking in the Window Art Project that the Chico Arts Commission put together, featuring window-art displays in more than 50 local storefronts. There are guides available online at www.artoberfest.net as well as at participating businesses, but you hardly need one. Arts DEVO just walked downtown early one morning, grabbed some coffee from the Naked Lounge, and window-shopped for original, local art. In the two-square-block area framed by First, Third, Broadway and Wall streets, there were 30 Window Art displays:

• Local sings national: Hey Chico, help a sister out. Local girl Leah Christie is one of the four finalists in the National Finals Rodeo’s National Anthem Contest and she needs your votes to win a spot singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the rodeo finals in Las Vegas in December. Go to www.nfrexperience.com, click on “National Anthem Contest,” and vote by Oct. 30.

• Botanica: The modern dancers/illusionists of the Momix company “reveal nature’s changing imagery” on the Laxson Auditorium stage tonight, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m.

Mystery Show: Reception for Oroville’s Artists of River Town’s annual group show is Saturday, Oct. 26, 4-6 p.m.
