The plot thickens
Three fraternity members of the former Chico chapter of Beta Theta Pi could get away with spending just $13 in the alleged hazing case. Not including lawyers, of course. That’s because those lawyers have turned over signatures from all 13 Beta pledges pledging their elders did no wrong. We’ll let Tamara Mosbarger be the judge. The Butte County Superior Court justice will make a ruling on the proposed compromise Dec. 17.
A for animation
Chico State students Nathan Harling, Chris Funk, Todd Brown and Josiah Koons know a thing or two about video games. Their own creation, Stalks, took home first place for Best Interactive Media at the CSU Media Arts Festival earlier this month. Keep up the good play, guys.
A for engineering
Yep, there are two Chico State winners this week. The Department of Civil Engineering competed against University of the Pacific in a small wood structure battle hosted by the Structural Engineers Association. Basically, whichever team could create the strongest trusses—that is, 8-by-2-inch wooden structures—would emerge victorious and take home a $1,000 prize. It took more weight to buckle Chico State’s entry, so kudos to the Wildcat engineers. In spring, the department will enter in the steel bridge competition, which is sure to be a bigger undertaking.
Coast to coast
Skye “The P.E. Guy” Dunn and Co. have finally reached their destination—the Atlantic—six months after taking a dip in the Pacific Ocean to launch their trek across America. The clincher: They did it on foot. Along the way Dunn and four “Skye-Walkers” (he’s shown here with, from top right, Jessica Sid, Shannon Morten and Casey Sylvester) stopped in classrooms to promote quality physical education as a way to combat obesity. They even gave out pedometers!
Getting the go-ahead
Plans for the Natural History Museum were approved by Chico State trustees last week (Nov. 14). The building, which will be situated near Bidwell Mansion along the Esplanade, will cost roughly $6 million.
Time to pray
OK, maybe it’s just time to talk about praying. The Chico State Religious Studies Society has invited students of different religions to form a panel to talk about what their faith means in today’s society.
After the praying …
Shed those inhibitions and ready your submission to the annual Erotic Art Show. Last year the Crux Artist Collective, which hosted the show, was packed with paintings, performance art and tons of inquiring minds. So don’t miss out on your time to shine. The deadline for submissions, which should be brought to the A.S. Women’s Center in BMU 003, is Dec. 3.
