Issue: June 26, 2014

Good morning, readers,

How many of you have had a million-dollar (or even a

couple-thousand-dollar) idea? Did you put it to the test? This week is

our first Entrepreneurs Issue, and in it we highlight a few local

business folks who took their tech-inspired dreams to the next level.

One's a high-art T-shirt maker; another helps people target marketing on

sites like Facebook. We also check in with the founder of Auctiva as

well as the head of downtown's ChicoStart, an incubator for local tech

startups. (Also take a peek at this week's Greenways story, which

features a local man who's turned his desire to help others into a solar

venture in Africa.

Naturally, we have more for you, too. I took a deeper look at the

YouTube video that's recently gone viral of a Chico cop whose response

to a rollover crash has sparked cries of police brutality. Editor

Melissa Daugherty weighs in on the matter in her column, Second & Flume,

and I'm curious what others will think of the issue after reading

it--please send in your letters to the editor

(chicoletters@newsreview.com). Also, Ken Smith checks in with Butte

County's anti-frackers; Howard Hardee takes a look at proposed changes

to Chico's firefighting tactics; and Arts Devo offers up his summer

playlist.

If you haven't done so already, please like us on Facebook

(www.facebook.com/ChicoNewsandReview) for links to more stories, to

offer your opinions, and for info on some fun summer contests.

Until next week,

Meredith J. Graham, associate editor
