Q: Who can post events to the online calendar?
A: Anyone can post events to any location in our database, if the location isn’t already listed, you can easily add it.
Q: How do I post an event to the online calendar?
A: The first step is to create a user account on newsreview.com. You may already have an account if you have participated in our online Best Of readers’ polls or have voted in the SAMMIES, CAMMIES or JAMMIES competitions. If you do not have an account, you can create one by clicking “REGISTER” near the sign in form on our home page. Once you have an account, sign in to our site from the upper right of our home page and you’ll be taken to your MyN&R page. The MyN&R page can be thought of as the main control panel for your newsreview.com account. One of the first choices on MyN&R is to create a new event.
Q: What are the print deadlines?
A: Deadline to be considered for the print edition is 9am the Thursday before publication.
For more information on how to be included in Chico’s Art 1st Saturday, e-mail
. You can schedule events up to 15 months in the future, which will be viewable
online almost immediately.
Q: I’m the manager of a venue, if anyone can post events to your calendar, how can I control the events posted at my location?
A: First you need to claim ownership of your venue on our Web site. On the MyN&R page, you’ll see an area where you can claim ownership of a venue. Click the claim link and a search box will open. If you search for your venue and cannot find it, the bottom of the selection menu has an option to create a new location on our Web site. Once you have been approved as the person responsible for managing your venue’s presence on our Web site, you’ll have the ability to take ownership of publicly posted events at your location. You are also able to write a description for your venue and upload a logo or photo.
Q: How can my venue’s Web site display events from the N&R online calendar?
A: Once you have been approved to manage a venue, you’ll see a link in
the venue management part of MyN&R to display calendar events on your Web
site. This link gives you a simple piece of code that you can copy and paste
into your venue’s website. It’s simple to style this feed to match
your Web site, or you can use our default color scheme.

Q: I’m having a problem entering a new event into the online calendar.
A: The most common problem involves formatting the date and time of your event. Please make sure you are using the format in the examples and are including only numbers with am/pm notation. Words such as "doors open" or "open past midnight" can’t be accepted as a valid time by the Web site. In this situation, the best idea would be to put a numeric time in this area and add the verbose time description in the "Description" part of your posting.
Q: I’ve submitted an image with my event and it’s not showing up on my listing’s web page.
A: Uploaded images must be in jpg format and use the RGB color space. Photos from a digital camera would meet these requirements. A proof of your event’s poster from a professional printer is most likely in the CMYK color space and cannot be displayed in Internet Browsers. Also PDFs belong in the "Brochure or flier area" of the posting, not in the "Image."
Q: I’m doing everything correctly, but I’m still encountering problems.
A: We do our testing using Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 6 and Safari 2.0. Also, many areas of the site use JavaScript, so that needs to be enabled (it usually is by default). If you are using one of these browsers and are having a problem, .
